In order to continue celebrating public Masses, we are required to follow Diocesan directives to insure that every possible precaution is taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19.  One of the requirements is the positioning of Ushers to oversee the correct recording of those attending, proper seating that insures social distancing, and the orderly reception of communion.

Despite numerous requests, we continue to experience a shortage of volunteers for the role of Usher, especially at the Sunday 10:30 Mass.  As I compose this email, we have no Usher for this Sunday’s (10/4/2020) 10:30 Mass.  Without an Usher, I (Fr. Steve) can do one of two things:

  1.  Cancel the 10:30 Mass this weekend.
  2.  Serve as the Usher.

If I (Fr. Steve) am required to serve as the Usher, it will lead to the following consequences:

  1.  The doors will be locked at 10:30, and latecomers will not be allowed in.
  2. Mass will begin later than scheduled.

These measures are not meant to punish, but simply to make it possible for me to do double-duty.  Please, consider making all of this unnecessary by letting me know you can usher this Sunday at 10:30.
