LENTEN REGULATIONS FOR FAST AND ABSTINENCE<\/span><\/h2>\n

In the United States, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence.
\nAll other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence only.<\/p>\n

Abstinence:<\/h4>\n

Law:<\/strong> All persons who are 14 or older are bound by the law of abstinence.
\nExplanation:<\/strong> A person is bound by the law of abstinence beginning on the day after their 14th birthday.
\nApplication:<\/strong> The law of abstinence forbids the eating of meat and foods prepared with meat or meat by-products.<\/p>\n

Fast:<\/h4>\n

Law:<\/strong> All adults between the ages of 18 and 58 are bound by the law of fast.
\nExplanation:<\/strong> Adult are bound by the law of fast when their age falls between the day\u00a0 after their 18th birthday and the day of their 59th birthday.
\nApplication:<\/strong> The law of fast allows only one full meal and two lighter meals in the course of a day, and prohibits eating between meals.
\nExceptions:<\/strong> Those who are pregnant or sick are not bound by the law of fast.<\/p>\n
